Overview

We pick you up at Anchorage hotels or the airport and begin our journey along the Seward Highway—an official National Scenic Byway known for glaciers, mountains, and wildlife. This fully narrated, 6-hour experience blends a comfortable transfer to Seward with classic Alaska sightseeing, a wildlife visit, and a short glacier walk, ending with a convenient drop-off at the cruise ship terminal.

Anchorage to Turnagain Arm

South of Anchorage, the highway skims the edge of Potter Marsh, part of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, a seasonal haven for waterfowl and eagles. We continue beside the tidal waters of Turnagain Arm, where steep mountains plunge to the sea. At Beluga Point, we pause for photos and the chance—conditions permitting—to spot Dall sheep on the cliffs or beluga whales in the inlet. Keep an eye out for salmon fishermen below the bridges along the highway in summer.

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC)

Next, we visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a sanctuary that cares for Alaska’s iconic animals. Here you can view bison, elk, moose, caribou, musk oxen, eagles, and (with luck) bears in spacious habitats while learning about conservation efforts. It’s a favorite stop for close-up photographs in a safe, respectful setting.

Portage & the Kenai Mountains

Back on the highway, we pass the remains of Portage, a community dramatically affected by the 1964 earthquake, and climb into the Kenai Mountains. Views open above and below the tree line—jagged peaks, hanging glaciers, and alpine valleys. We roll through Moose Pass, a small mountain town framed by lakes and waterfalls.

Exit Glacier Walk

About four miles north of Seward, we turn toward Exit Glacier—the only glacier in the area accessible by road. A short, gently graded walk brings you near the blue ice (trail access and distances can vary by season and conditions). Your guide shares the story of the Harding Icefield and how glaciers shape the landscape.

Arrival in Seward

After the glacier stop, we arrive in the charming port of Seward. You’ll glimpse the busy small-boat harbor with commercial fishing vessels, tour boats, and scenic mountain backdrops. We then drop you directly at the cruise ship terminal for an easy embarkation.
